My name is Rosemary Cunningham and Illustration, etc. is what I do. I create hand drawn ink illustrations that surprise and delight. I sometimes go free-range; painting a huge mural, running workshops, doing live illustration at events, doing talks or making artifacts for ‘mobile museums’.
I’m passionate about creating illustrations of mad facts, architecture and people and their stories. I also love a good map.
The Glasgow Alphabet is a colourful illustrated ABC of Glasgow with a recognisable icon for every letter. It was created by illustrating people’s suggestions via social media. It runs all the way from from Armadillo, Barras and Clyde river to the Zoology museum. There is now an Edinburgh Alphabet too, created in exactly the same way; compiled by the people who know the city best.
Seeing my designs stitched by Laura Westville has been such a treat! I would never have considered embroidery as an avenue to explore, but I have been genuinely astounded by the level of detail and care that goes into their products. I love that they make everything from scratch right here in Scotland, I feel involved in the process and that’s the icing on the cake.
This quilt is lovingly wrapped in tissue paper and secured in a Laura Westville keepsake box.
